4. Mini Haul

Guys. I bought an Urban Decay eyeshadow palette today.

I know, I know. I JUST started this blog yesterday, stated that I have never used high-end makeup & probably never will, & then I go & buy an Urban Decay product. In my defense though, I said all those things before I discovered Nordstrom Rack & the fact that they sell discount high-end makeup. Who knew?!

I met a friend for lunch at Red Robin today, & while I was out by the mall I decided to stop into some of the outlying stores – namely TJ Maxx & Nordstrom Rack. It was a pretty successful trip.

Regardless of what it sounds like, I didn’t ONLY get makeup. At TJ Maxx I got the Elf 32-pan Natural Eyeshadow Palette for $4.99. I know I just did a review of a bold palette & even wore bold eye makeup to work last night, but nude/smoky-nude eye looks are my ABSOLUTE favorite thing. I don’t think I could ever own enough brown/cream/bronze/mahogany/gold eyeshadow shades. I love to mix & match them & I think it’s incredibly difficult to go wrong when you’re working with these colors. It’s practically foolproof!

I also got a beauty blender-type makeup sponge for $3.99, because I’ve been meaning to give it a try & see if it lives up to all the hype, & a discontinued WoodWick candle in Secluded Island on clearance for $7.50.

Then I headed on over to Nordstrom Rack, which is two stores down from TJ Maxx. The cosmetics were right in the front door & I spent some time looking at Nyx [which is hard to find in my area] & Stila before heading to the clearance racks. There, I found three pairs of earrings that totaled less than $15 & a small, simple, black leather Mundi wallet for $15. The wallet wasn’t on clearance, but I’ve been needing a small one for the times I want to use my tiny cross-body bags & my normal wallet won’t fit. I headed to the registers after that, but on the way I decided to walk through the cosmetics one more time & found a rack of Urban Decay products. I had seen a few UD items in the clearance – $6 for some purple/black lip gloss [ick] & $5 for StarDust eyeshadow in Retrograde. I’m not really a single pan eyeshadow kind of girl, so I skipped on that. On the Urban Decay rack by the registers, there were primers, eyeshadow palettes, etc. I think they also had the Deluxe Shadow BoxΒ for like $9,Β but I just wasn’t feeling it & it’s bright colors today. So instead, I got the Ammo Palette for under $12 & am very excited to try it out!

Now, I’m pretty much out of money until payday. Which is next Friday. OOPS. But last night was my Friday, so that means I can just stay home, be lazy, & read for a few days. Any of you doing anything fun this weekend?

xoxo

3. Review: Wet N Wild LE Coloricon Spring 2013 Eyeshadow Palette: Going in the Wild

This is the Wet N Wild Coloricon 8-pan eyeshadow palette in Going in the Wild, from the Limited Edition Spring 2013 line. I just purchased this beauty yesterday at Rite Aid for $4.99 & am SO happy I was able to get my hands on it before it disappeared for the year, since Spring [& almost Summer] are over.

Today I did my eyes using the right side of this palette. The thing that made me fall in love with this palette most was that gorgeous teal shade, & I couldn’t wait to test it out!

5

I started out by priming my lids with Elf Eyelid Primer & Maybelline Color Tattoo in Icy Mint. I remember when I first saw the Color Tattoo creme eyeshadows &, being the noob that I am, could NOT for the life of me figure out what they could possibly be used for. Now, I own 3 of them & am itching to own more – they’re one of my favorite products! So fun & easy to prime lids with & build color on top of! They can also double as cream eyeliner, which is originally what I purchased one [in Pomegranate Punk] to use for!

I used the eyeshadow pretty much exactly as the palette tells you to, & blended them out. Then I applied Elf Cream Eyeliner in black, using their angled eyeliner brush, & Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara in Very Black. Cream eyeliner is a recent discovery of mine, as I’ve been an eyeliner & mascara wearer for a long time. I was intimidated by cream eyeliner for the longest time, but now it’s the only kind of ‘liquid’ eyeliner I will use. An angled eyeliner brush makes ALL the difference, & makes applying cream eyeliner a complete breeze.

Review

Overall, I really adored this look, & this palette. It was definitely worth trying out some color on my eyelids. I wore this to work where I worked a 9 hour graveyard shift, & this didn’t crease at all. It faded a little [or maybe I just got used to it], which is to be expected, but it isn’t obvious at all. Β It is still much more vibrant in person than it is in the pictures – I have yet to master taking good selfies in good, true color.

I applied this eyeshadow using my Elf Professional brushes: Eye Shadow Brush, Blending Eye Brush, Defining Eye Brush, & a tiny Concealer Brush, which I use for lining my lower lid with eyeshadow. I struggled a little with fallout, but I think that might be because I made the mistake of doing my face makeup [consisting of Elf Mineral Infused Face Primer, Covergirl BB Cream, Loreal Project Runway blush, & Rimmel Stay Matte powder] before my eye makeup. Thankfully I wasn’t wearing REAL face makeup, i.e. foundation, because I had to use a makeup remover pad to get the fallout completely off my face. I blame myself entirely for that though, because I know I’ve had no trouble with fallout in the past, & the only difference is that in the past, I didn’t wear face makeup . SO.Β Lesson #1: Apply eye makeup before face makeup. The mess is a lot easier to clean up that way.

Thanks so much for reading! If you have any feedback at all about my blog, please leave a comment so I can continue improving & growing as a blogger!

2. My First Haul!

Of course this isn’t my first haul of the summer, but the first I’m finally able to share & discuss. Lately, I’ve been spending my paychecks almost exclusively on makeup & coffee. I feel like a 15 year old again, with no responsibilities other than maybe filling my gas take once every few weeks – man I miss those days. One of the many pros of living at home for a few months!

2013-08-14 19.50.07

This haul was the product of really awesome sales & really awesome reviews. Shopko has all Wet N Wild 30% off right now, & Rite Aid has all Rimmel 40% off. I’ve been in the process of acquiring all the Wet N Wild 8-pan Color Icon palettes, because my experience with the first one I bought – Nude Awakening – was so good thanks to a youtube tutorial by QueenCarlene.Β I was at Shopko earlier this week shopping for jeans & happened upon this Wet N Wild sale, so I bought Comfort Zone & Petal Pusher. I immediately regretted not buying Blue Had Me At Hello, so I was happy to buy it today!

Aside from Blue Had Me At Hello, other palettes shown from Wet N Wild are I’m Getting Sunburned, Sweet As Candy, & Going in the Wild. Funny story about the Going in the Wild palette – it’s a limited edition palette from the Spring line [I believe]. I remember buying the Nude Awakening one what seems like months ago, & I didn’t even give Going in the Wild a glance. Fast forward a few months, & I think I’ve become comfortable enough to try colored eye shadow, & decide I want to buy this palette. I know it’s LE & most stores no longer have it, like the Rite Aid by my house [which I had specifically checked two days ago] but the Rite Aid I work at DOES. We had one of each palette left. So last night when I went into work I was like “alright, I’m buying that palette tonight!”, but when I went to check the display they were both gone! I was so disappointed, & figured I had lost my chance to get it because there was no way I was going to buy it online for double or triple the price. Then today, I went back into the Rite Aid by my house for the Rimmel sale & as I’m walking to the cash register I spot this palette, the very last one, on one of the display tables. I swear to god this display was NOT there two days ago when I was in that store, & I have no idea where it came from, but I don’t even care – moral of the story is, I was dying to get this palette, & by some miracle it appeared in a store where it didn’t exist two days ago. The beauty gods were on my side today.

Okay, anyways, back to my haul. The final eye shadow palette I bought was the Maybelline Eye Studio palette in Electric Emerald. This was regular $9.99 & was on clearance for $.99 at Shopko, so of course I bought it. To conclude my Shopko purchases, I got the Wet N Wild Color Icon Blusher in Pearlescent Pink. I’ve heard great things & seen great reviews of this blusher, so for 30% off $2.99, I thought I’d give it a try. I now own four blushes, two of which are from the Loreal Project Runway Fall 2012 collection that I got for like $1.50 each at Big Lots. Blush is one of those products, like bronzer, that I am really, REALLY new to using & have only tried a handful of times because I’m somewhat intimidated by it. Hopefully with some good color variety, I’ll be able to find something that works for me!

On to my Rite Aid stop – I got a lot of Rimmel products that I read good reviews for – Fix & Perfect Pro Primer, 25 Hour Foundation in True Ivory, & Stay Matte powder in Translucent. I’m brand new to using foundation – like so new I have never used it before. I was blessed with good skin & have never had acne or issues with super oilyness or dryness, so for a long time I just didn’t see the point in wearing face makeup. Recently though, I started using a random BB cream [I think it’s Covergirl – it was the cheapest & I had a coupon, I believe] because my mom recommended it. I really like BB cream, it gives me enough coverage to blur the minor blemishes & imperfections I have on my face, & doesn’t look or feel like I’m wearing makeup. Regardless of the fact that I definitely don’t need medium or full coverage makeup, I have still been super interested in trying it – just because. I’d like to find a makeup that, if I ever DO need some amount of coverage, I have it in my bag. A week or two ago I bought Maybelline Fit Me liquid foundation & the matching powder in 120 because they were on sale at Walmart for $5 apiece. I have yet to try them because my parents don’t have AC & I’m basically always melting, but I’m really looking forward to trying that foundation & the 25 Hour foundation from Rimmel. When I do, I’ll do a post of my first impression of both!

The last few things I bought were the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte lipstick in shade 104. This shade is a super pretty nude-y mauve, which I’ve been looking for forever. I can’t wait to test it’s actual wearability & lastability. I got the Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Definer in Purple Shock & a couple liquid glitter eye liners from Prestige because they were on clearance for $2.50ish. Lastly, I got the Prestige Wonder-Full Lip Plumping Gloss in Polished. The shade looks super pink in the tube, but on the lips it’s a simple, shimmery, light pink color. Plumping lip products are another thing I’ve never tried before, but the price was good & the reviews were even better, so I thought I’d give it a try.

I’m sure I’ll be doing some impression & review posts using these products & others that I have recently acquired. Thanks for reading & if you have any suggestions for myself & my brand new blog, please leave a comment! Feedback is absolutely welcome!

xoxo

1. Introduction

Hi there! My name is Dani, & I’m a brand new blogger. I wouldn’t quite call myself a ‘beauty blogger’ because I have no idea how good I’ll be at this, but I’ve been purchasing cosmetics & trying new things like crazy this summer. I always wished I had somewhere to discuss my experiences with makeup – as it’s a totally new thing for me!

I worked at Rite Aid this summer before going to graduate school, & that’s where it all started. Not only does Rite Aid already have killer deals on cosmetics, but I also got 20% off everything, first dibs on clearance, & the ability to spend a majority of my 10 hour shifts scoping out things that looked like they had potential. Then, I discovered Makeup Alley, beauty blogs, & youtube to help me weed out the good & bad. This summer quickly became the summer of trying new things & ‘bettering myself’. I used to only wear eyeliner & mascara, but have started experimenting with lip products, eye shadow & face products. I’ve even been experimenting with hair products, face washes & moisturizers, & shaving cream/razors. It’s been so fun & I can’t wait to start sharing my experiences with other beauty lovers!
